| Dear Friend, Today marks the official kick-off of the United We Serve summer service initiative that President Obama announced last week. In his message, the President asked all Americans to get involved in their communities by serving over the summer. Jumpstart is excited and proud to be a key participant in this initiative in several ways: - Today, in San Francisco, Jumpstart Corps members are participating in a kick-off service event with First Lady Michelle Obama, California First Lady Maria Shriver, and Corporation for National and Community Service acting CEO Nicola Goren at one of our preschool program partners, Bret Harte elementary school.
- This summer, in addition to summer programming at several of our preschool program partners, Jumpstart is hosting service events and activities in cities across the country, including Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, with more being planned as part of the initiative.
- Jumpstart is partnering with the White House and the Corporation for National and Community Service to plan additional opportunities to increase participating in and awareness of United We Serve, including working with other organizations to help the communities we serve.
In his announcement, President Obama said, that "America's new foundation will be built one community at a time and it starts with you." Jumpstart has long believed in the power of service and is excited to have the President's support in our efforts. United We Serve starts today and continues through September 11, a national day of service and remembrance. Go to Serve.gov to find service opportunities near you.
