Mary-Louise Parker said it best: "Nothing but good can come from teaching children to read."

Jumpstart's Read for the Record spokesperson, and award winning actress, Mary-Louise Parker is featured in the Cause Celeb section of the September issue of InStyle magazine!

As spokesperson, Parker encourages all Americans to pledge to read on October 8 as part of Jumpstart's Read for the Record. Your participation supports Jumpstart's year-round literacy program for children in low-income communities. There's never been a better time to get involved!

InStyle was on hand as the Tony-, Emmy- and Golden Globe- winning actress visited a preschool classroom in a low-income community served by Jumpstart. There, she read Jumpstart's Read for the Record official Campaign book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar to eager ears, and filmed a public service announcement for the Campaign. Mary-Louise Parker spoke about why she cares so deeply about Jumpstart's cause:

"Books allow you to relate to what you don't understand, which teaches you compassion," the actress told InStyle. "It's why I'm so passionate about the organization."
