MESSAGE FROM CAMPAIGN MANAGER DAVID PLOUFFE

What They Don't Want to Talk About

Over the weekend, John McCain's top adviser announced their plan to stop engaging in a debate over the economy and "turn the page" to more direct, personal attacks on Barack Obama.

In the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, they want to change the subject from the central question of this election. Perhaps because it's hard to defend the policies McCain supported these past eight years and wants to continue.

But it's not just McCain's role in the current crisis that they're avoiding. The backward economic philosophy and culture of corruption that helped create the current crisis are looking more and more like the other major financial crisis of our time.

NEWS FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Hillary Clinton on What's at Stake for Women

Hillary Clinton spoke to the annual Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee meeting about "What's at Stake for Women in the 2008 Election." Hillary started with a sobering reality:

"I come today with a very clear, unequivocal message. We are facing extremely difficult times in New York and America. It will be challenging for our nation and our state to navigate through these unchartered waters. We will need leaders who will understand what it takes to reassert our economic stability, create new jobs while at the same time remembering those who are most likely to be left out and left behind.

"I am absolutely positive with every fiber of my being that we must elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden to be our President and Vice President on November 4th."

Florida Women for Obama Reach Out to Florida Voters

On Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th, Florida Women for Obama held organizational meetings and canvasses in Hillsborough, Duval, Miami-Dade and Orange counties. Our goal was to help register as many voters as possible in a final push before the October 6th voter registration deadline.

Barack in Asheville, NC: 'Putting The Health of our Families Before the Profits of our Insurance Companies.'

Barack spoke to residents of Asheville, North Carolina, this afternoon about the need to continue focusing on the issues. One issue that Barack wants to continue talking about is health care. He specifically told the crowd about the dangers of John McCain's out of touch health care plan.

"Now I know that at this moment, when we stand in the midst of a serious economic crisis, some might ask how we can afford to focus on health care. Major financial institutions have collapsed. Families across America are struggling. And it's clear that the rescue package we just passed in Congress isn't the end of what we need to do to fix our economy -- it's just the beginning. Because contrary to what Senator McCain says, the fundamentals of our economy are still not strong. And we've got to address those fundamentals right now."

Minnesota Women for Obama: Thirty Days and Counting

Last weekend Campaign for Change volunteers and staff knocked on doors across the state as part of the "One Month Out" weekend. Election Day is now less than one month away, and we all have the opportunity to help Barack Obama bring change to our country.

Supporters in White Bear Lake finished up a weekend of canvassing with a "Barack-B-Q" held for all those who spent the day knocking on doors and talking to voters.

Mary and Jay, residents of White Bear Lake, have been actively helping with the campaign for months now. They said they were nervous at first about knocking on doors and weren't sure they would like it. They have since realized it's something they love to do and makes them feel as though they are really making a difference.

ON THE ISSUES

Women's Health Care: A Side-by-Side Comparison

The stakes for reforming America's broken health care system are particularly high for women. The majority of our nation's uninsured are women, and women also are the nation's primary caregivers of seniors, Americans with disabilities, and children.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden will guarantee affordable, accessible health care coverage for all women and their families. Under the Obama-Biden plan, if you like your current health insurance, nothing changes, except that your costs will go down by as much as $2,500 per year. If you don't have health insurance, you will have a choice of new, affordable health insurance options.

McCain Supports Dismal Women's Health Policies

By Editorial Staff
stevenspointjournal.com
October 6th, 2008

As the presidential campaign season rolls on, the stark differences between the presidential candidates could not be clearer: Sen. Barack Obama, a proven advocate who will advance women's access to critical health services; or Sen. John McCain, who will turn back the clock and insert politicians into the doctor's office to make decisions for women.

Sen. McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his VP pick has brought many important issues about motherhood, contraception, teen pregnancy, sex education and choice to the forefront in this election. These issues are extremely important to women voters and to women's health advocacy groups like Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin. And there is no better way to highlight the clear distinctions between the McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden ticket when it comes to women and our families. The candidates' records speak for themselves.

The Only Life Story That Matters: Yours

By Dottie Lamm and Marilyn Van Derbur Atler
The Denver Post
October 1st, 2008

As two women who have done extensive public speaking, we know that telling one's life story is important for initial credibility. And, certainly, all the contenders for president and vice president have compelling stories. Yet we need to look beyond these stories and ask, "What's your story line for America?"

This election is not about their life stories from the past. Instead, it is about the life stories you and your children will live out in the future.
