When a man says he has nothing to hide a hundred times, the odds are 99 to 1 that he has.  When the nothing to hide dodge comes from the Districts chief law-enforcement officer, that is not reassuring.  Yet that is precisely what District Attorney General Peter Nickles said defending those involved in the firing of District Rent Administrator Grayce Wiggins.  That is stonewalling of a very high order.  It is No, Nyet, Nada combined.  Remember, we are talking about the most outstanding person to fill that critical office in its history.  What is going on here?

The firing of Grayce Wiggins is one of the best kept secrets in the citys history, even though it involves questions of critical importance.  Grayce Wiggins entire tenure in office was devoted to helping tenants in trouble with landlords and developers.  Her landmark ruling against B.F. Saul/Chevy Chase Bank regarding the Kennedy-Warren apartments redevelopment was a blow for freedom.  In doing so, she obviously stepped on some very important toes.  Her most important priority, however, was helping the valiant band of long-suffering tenants facing great hardship at the Kennedy-Warren Apartments.  For her pains, her short time in office as Rent Administrator was outrageously and crudely ended.  We need more than an answer to why; we need her back at once!
