SAMHSA Supports National Red Ribbon Week

Source: SAMHSA
Did you know?
The murder of a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent by drug traffickers in 1985 sparked National Red Ribbon Week. As a result, the tradition of displaying red ribbons spread as a symbol of intolerance toward drug use.

October 23–31, 2008, is National Red Ribbon Week, a time when millions of young people and adults show their support for healthy lifestyles by wearing or displaying a red ribbon. This nationwide celebration has become a major force for raising public awareness and mobilizing communities to combat underage drinking and illegal drug use among youth.

SAMHSA encourages you to get involved with prevention activities in your community to help fight alcohol and illegal drug use among youth.
