Mayor Fenty and the entire District Government wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season. Local government offices will be closed Tuesday, January 1, 2008. Read more.


DMV Announces New Hours For Brentwood, Georgetown

The Department of Motor Vehicles announces new hours for its Brentwood and Georgetown service centers starting Wednesday, January 2. The Brentwood Service Center will now be open 10:15 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, and the Georgetown Service Center will now be open 8:15 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Read more.


City Collects Holiday Trees January 2-13

The Department of Public Works will pick up bare, undecorated holiday trees and wreaths starting January 2. These will be shredded into mulch for gardening. After January 19, please place these items out with your regular trash. Read more.


The District Government Is Ready for Snow. Are You?

The District's Snow Plan has all the information you need about snow emergency routes, public transportation and resident responsibilities during a snow event. You can also view weather reports and snow advisories. Read more.


Pedestrian Safety Efforts Stepped Up

The DC Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Police are increasing enforcement for traffic violations involving pedestrians. The campaign targets drivers who don't stop for pedestrians, drivers who speed, and pedestrians who cross against signals and endanger themselves in traffic. Read more.


District's New Plan to Reduce Infant Mortality

Mayor Fenty and Interim DC Department of Health Director Dr. Carlos Cano have announced the District's new plan to reduce infant mortality. The plan will help ensure that children are born healthy and that mothers receive adequate prenatal care. The infant mortality rate has changed very little in 10 years. Read more.


Ward Eight Supermarket Opens Doors

Mayor Fenty took part in the grand opening of the new Super Giant store at Camp Simms in Ward Eight. The grocery is the first to open east of the Anacostia River in nearly 10 years, and is Giant's largest store in the District of Columbia. Read more.


Developer Selected for Old Convention Center Site

Mayor Fenty, Councilmember Kwame Brown (At Large) and Councilmember Jack Evans (Ward Two) announced plans for the old Washington Convention Center site downtown. The $850 million, mixed-use shopping, housing and office project will be a new downtown destination and will include $55 million for affordable housing. Read more.
