| DC Votes latest campaign, I Am DC, I Demand the Vote, is a huge success! The everyday people that make up the fabric of DC lifenurses, teachers, students, civil rights leaders, activists, journalists and community leaders have responded to our campaign with nearly 70 stories about why they demand the vote. We shared these stories with residents in Mississippi during our trip to the state last week. Even the media has taken notice, with articles in the Washington Post's Reliable Source, DCist and El Pregonero! Your stories are heartfelt, impassioned and poignant. Here's what Cynthia, an expectant mom and DC resident had to say:
My husband and I are due to have our first child in three weeks. Why do we have any less of a right to have a say in the country in which she will grow up? We deserve the same representational voice on the economy, education, the environment and national security as those in any of the 50 states. Not just usour baby deserves that. Read more stories and share your own, here. We've already run ads in local newspapers to keep the issue in front of Congress and on WMATA buses across the District. We will soon launch online and bus shelter ads. But this isnt just an advertising campaign; its about reaching out to all DC residents to join the movement for voting rights! Be a part of this exciting campaign by sharing your story about why you demand the vote for Washington, DC. And, if you aren't already a member of DC Vote, now's the time to join! We've launched our first-ever membership card. Your annual contribution of $35 or more entitles you to a 10% discount at numerous local businesses, including Local 16, Ben's Chili Bowl, Second Story Books and Frager's Hardware. Click here to become a member today! Are you DC? Do you demand the vote? Tell us why at www.i-am-dc.org!
