Divided We Fail Update - March 30, 2009

As We Change
Divided We Fail.org--It's time for Health Care and Financial Security for all

President Obama is hosting town hall meetings across the country on health care, and he has pledged to pass comprehensive heath reform this year. Now the ball is in Congress' court. But some members of Congress don't believe health care reform should be a top priority until the economy turns around.

It's up to us to make sure Congress know that we can't truly fix our economy until we fix health care.

Tell Congress that we can't afford the cost of doing nothing.

WHAT'S NEW

The president has named his new choice to head the Department of Health and Human Services - Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Now she's headed into the national spotlight at the center of the political crossfire on health care reform. It's nothing new for the battle-tested governor who has a history of finding middle ground in a tough partisan climate.

Find out what Gov. Sebelius will bring to the table in the upcoming health care reform debate.

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK

We all know that the rising cost of health care has put a squeeze on millions of American families. But Business Roundtable recently compared U.S. health care costs with leading and emerging competitors in Europe and Asia.

And the findings were clear: "the costs and performance of the U.S. health care system have put America's companies and workers at a significant competitive disadvantage in the global marketplace."

CHAMP(s) OF THE MONTH

This month's CHAMP is the Community Action Partnership. Founded in 1972, The Partnership grew out of President Lyndon Johnson's commitment to significantly reduce poverty in America. The landmark Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 established more than 1,000 Community Action Agencies (CAAs) in urban, rural, and suburban areas across America.

Forty-five years later, these CAAs continue to provide services and work for economic security for low-income families and individuals, ranging from pre-school children to older adults.

The Partnership is one of more than 100 organizations that support Divided We Fail because they agree that access to quality, affordable health care and long-term financial security are basic needs that all Americans share.
