Dear Friends:
On Tuesday, Veterans Day, I was home in North Dakota participating in ceremonies honoring those who have served in America's Armed Forces. I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest thanks to all our nation's veterans.
When your nation called, you answered without hesitation. Without your contributions, the course of history would have been very different. You fought and won for the cause of freedom, and for that you can be very proud.
As we pass Veterans Day 2008, we must continue to say thank you to all our veterans. As Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee I have worked to keep the promise to our nation's veterans by proposing and passing historical increases in federal funding for veterans health care. This much-needed increase will allow the VA to better meet the needs of veterans from past conflicts as well as our newest veterans, the men and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. I am very proud of my role in providing this funding increase. Top quality medical service for veterans is one more way we can continue to honor their outstanding service.
Again, to all our veterans, THANK YOU for all you have done for this nation and this world. We owe you a debt of gratitude we will never be able to fully repay.
