Working in Partnership with UND Leadership

Dear Friend:

I wanted to make you aware that on Tuesday I will be meeting with UND President-Select Robert Kelley to commemorate his first day as the 11th President of the University of North Dakota.

In early June, I had the opportunity to visit with President-Select Kelley in my Washington office.  At this meeting, President-Select Kelley and I discussed how I could help him in my role as U.S. Senator to keep UND on its path of excellence.

Like President-Select Kelley, I am committed to strong higher education programs in North Dakota. In fact, the University of North Dakota benefited from over $66 million in federal programs in fiscal year 2007, which encompassed student aid, grants, contracts, and other support. This represented 18% of UND's budget that year. More recently, the Congressional Delegation and I secured more than $32 million in funding for specific projects at UND for 2008, including the EERC and the UAV Center of Excellence.

I look forward to welcoming President-Select Kelley to his new position, and working with him to support quality higher education in our State.

Sincerely,

KENT CONRAD
United States Senator
