Fw: Conrad Calls for National Energy Summit

Dear Friend,

I have heard from many North Dakotans who are struggling with the high cost of fuel. The cost of crude oil has nearly doubled in the last year, causing skyrocketing prices at the pump. Since June 2007, gasoline prices have increased by $1 per gallon, while diesel prices have gone from $2.91 to over $4.65 per gallon in our state.

Yesterday, I convened a bipartisan group of senators who committed to working with me on legislation to address our energy crisis. As a first step, today we wrote to the Senate leadership, urging them to convene an energy summit as soon as possible. At this summit, we will hear from energy and transportation experts to explore the best solutions, including enhanced conservation and increased domestic fuel production. The solutions developed at the summit will guide us as we write legislation that will lower gas prices, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and strengthen our economy.

I will be back home next week to unveil a comprehensive proposal to help families in North Dakota and across the nation cope with skyrocketing gas prices.  Please join me at anyone of the following events:

  • Fargo - Monday, June 30, 1:30 pm, Mobile-Gateway Service Center, 330 Main Avenue
  • Minot - Wednesday, July 2, 11:00 am, Jon Erickson's Farm, 17503 46th Street SW
  • Bismarck - Wednesday, July 2, 2:00 pm, Bismarck State College, Prairie Room, Student Union

Finding solutions to our nation's energy concerns is one of my top priorities, and I will continue my work to overcome partisan differences and get something done on this critical issue.

Sincerely,

KENT CONRAD
United States Senate
