|  | Mayor Unveils 2008 Goals: "Opportunities for All" Mayor Fenty, City Administrator Dan Tangherlini and Deputy Mayors Victor Reinoso and Neil Albert unveiled the "Opportunities for All" plan. The plan builds on 2007 successes in education, public safety, healthcare and human services, infrastructure and the environment, customer service, jobs and housing, and economic development. The priorities are highlights of more than 40 extensive agency performance plans. Read more. |
|  | Mayor's Call Center Now at 311 San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom joined Mayor Fenty to roll out the District's new 311 service. Call 311 (formerly 727-1000) for information or to request any District Government service. Call 911 if you need the police or fire departments or an ambulance to respond. Both numbers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Read more. |
|  | New Taxi Meter Rates Take Effect in April In response to thousands of public comments, Mayor Fenty and the DC Taxicab Commission have lowered the rates and eliminated surcharges for the District's upcoming switch to time-and-distance meters in its taxis. The flag drop rate will be $3, and surcharges for additional passengers and travel during rush hour will no longer apply. Read more. |
|  | A New Website for Emergency Preparedness Mayor Fenty and Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency Director Darrell Darnell unveiled 72hours.dc.gov, a new website to help residents plan for emergencies. The site has information about preparing for and responding to natural disasters, diseases and terror attacks. Read more. |
|  | Get Up to $10,000 for College You can apply for the District Government's four higher-education grants, and receive up to $10,000 for college, on a single application. The 2008 DC OneApp is now available. Read more. |
|  | Mayor Honors Two Heroic DDOT Employees Mayor Fenty, Fire/EMS Chief Dennis Rubin and DC Department of Transportation Director Emeka Moneme recognized two DDOT employees for saving the life of an elderly District resident. Reggie Arno and Alberta Paul rescued 88-year-old Edward Robinson from a house fire November 8. Read more. |

|  | Black History Invitational Swim MeetThe DC Department of Parks and Recreation will join the Black United Fund to host the 22nd Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet.
