The Divided We Fail June Update

Divided We Fail.org--It's time for Health Care and Financial Security for all

June 2009

Health care reform efforts are officially under way in Congress. Divided We Fail is working closely with both the House and the Senate to ensure that both parties work together to pass meaningful reform this year. Take a look at how things are shaping up in the first few weeks of the fight.

SPOTLIGHT ACTION

The Senate started work this month on health care reform legislation, the result of months of both political parties working together to find common ground. But now is the time when politics usually breaks down into petty fights that end up sinking important reform.

We can't let that happen this time around. Tell your senators you expect them to work across the aisle to pass health reform!

WHAT'S NEW

Wondering if and when Congress is going to finally pass health care reform? Wondering how they're planning to pay for it? As Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid is on the legislative front-line of negotiations. He recently sat down with AARP to discuss some of these nitty-gritty details of reform.

Check out the exclusive interview with Senator Reid at AARP's "Inside E Street."

TAKE ACTION

Get ready. It's spin season in Washington and you're about to hear a whole heckuva lot of whoppers about why health care reform is a bad idea. Think reform won't help you if you already have insurance? Think it will cost more than it will save us? Think again. Misleading talking points abound on why health care reform shouldn't be dealt with this year. We know better.

Take a peek at the eight most common myths about health reform – and see why they're just plain wrong.

CHAMP OF THE MONTH

Divided We Fail

AARP Pennsylvania State President Estella Hyde with her state senator, Bob Robbins.

AARP Pennsylvania State President Estella Hyde is the June Champ of the Month. She spent the last month crisscrossing the state promoting Divided We Fail's health care and economic security messages to members, volunteers and the news media.

During AARP lobby week in Harrisburg, Estella went the extra mile. She encouraged lawmakers to expand funding for home and community care at a capitol rally, advocated for expanding access to health insurance at a news conference and led a group of volunteers who shared key Divided We Fail messages with all 253 state legislators.

Thank you Estella for your partnership and dedication!
