from MPBN: Maine's two U.S. Senators have introduced legislation that would allow trucks carrying loads as heavy as 100,000 pounds to use all of Maine's interstate highways. Currently, trucks carrying more than 80,000 pounds have to exit the interstate in Augusta and travel further north on secondary roads. Maine's congressional delegation is trying to change that, citing statistics that show that trucks traveling on secondary roads have higher rates of accidents and fatalities. But Congress has rejected similar efforts in the past, a situation Sen. Susan Collins says she finds frustrating. "This issue has been the single most frustrating issue for me in the 12-plus years I've served in the Senate," she told Capitol News Service.
