| Dear Friends, Each year Jumpstart volunteers give more than one million hours in service to preschool children in low-income communities nationwide. In fact, Jumpstart is one of the largest part-time national service programs reaching 15,000 children. Imagine if Jumpstart could reach even more young children in need. Now it can. Voice your support for national service and help Jumpstart expand its reach. President Obama has called for the expansion of national service programs and scaling innovative programs. The spirit of service is at the core of Jumpstart's founding and future, and Jumpstart is ready to answer these calls to service. Congress is responding with legislation to engage more Americans in service. Last week, the House voted 321-105 to update, improve and expand national service programs. Right now, the Senate is considering the bipartisan Serve America Act which will provide more opportunities for Americans of all ages and experiences to serve their county. If passed, the number of service positions will increase to 250,000 (up from 75,000) helping address some of our nation's most serious challenges in areas such as education, health, and environmental and energy conservation. We need to make sure Congress passes this historic legislation to bolster service, especially in these economic times. This legislation will support programs like Jumpstart so they can expand and provide direct service to thousands of additional children and families. Tell your Senators to support the Serve America Act today! The next 24 hours are critical.
