Act Now to Save Metro Rail & Bus Service Dear Jim, | | Don't Let Metro Disappear! Take one minute to email Mayor Fenty and Councilmember Graham to let them know you support Metro funding. Photo Credit: Eric Schneider | Its been all over the news: people are using public transit more than ever. Even though gas prices are down, ridership in the region and across the country is still way up. After Metro delivered heroic service on Inauguration Day, it now faces a budget deficit for next year. To make up the gap, deep service cuts are on the table, such as earlier closing times and longer waits between trains and buses. There is another way to close the budget gap, though. Local governments can increase their contributions and prevent these service reductions. Speak out in support of DC providing full funding to Metro Rail and Bus.
DC's decision on the Metro budget is crucial. Arlington County said it is willing to increase its contributions to Metro, and the state of Maryland may be willing to pay more for part of the deficit. This Thursday, the Metro board will decide the fate of our rail and bus service. Please write to Mayor Fenty, and DC Councilmember Jim Graham, chair of the Committee on Public Works and Transportation. Tell them that the District should contribute its full share of the deficit -- $4.8 million -- so that Metro will keep running at its current level of service. Thanks, Received this from a friend?
