Momentum Builds for Conrad State 30 Program

Dear Phillip:

In recent years, I have heard too many stories about rural areas in North Dakota that do not have enough doctors, and even some stories about small hospitals and clinics that fear they will have to shut down because they cannot find physicians to fill vacancies.  This situation is unacceptable, and we must do something to make health care more readily available in our state and across the country.

Today, I introduced a bill to help get more doctors to small towns across
North Dakota by expanding and improving the Conrad State 30 Program, which I helped create in 1994.  Under the program, foreign doctors, trained in the United States, are allowed to extend their stay in the country if they agree to serve patients from underserved areas. Click here to learn more about improvements I have made to this important legislation.

This bill is an important step forward in improving health care across our state.  But more needs to be done, and I promise to continue seeking effective solutions to our growing health care needs.

Sincerely,

KENT CONRAD
