Dear Supporters:

You helped us make history yesterday - thank you!

The Senate passed the DC House Voting Rights Act (S.160) in a vote of 61-37. DC Vote, our coalition partners, our volunteers and supporters like you all paved the way for yesterday's success - we did it. The House is scheduled to vote on the bill next week. Although it is expected to easily pass, we have our work cut out for us.

As you probably know, the DC Voting Rights Act was passed in the Senate with a gun amendment that was also approved in a vote of 62-36. This flawed, dangerous and unnecessary amendment repeals DC's gun laws. According to the Brady Campaign, the bill would: make it legal to carry an unregistered firearm in the District, allow gun possession by many persons who have committed violent or drug-related misdemeanor crimes and bar DC from having any vision requirement for gun use.

The people of DC have spoken out on these issues time and time again - they want their vote NOT guns. Congress passed legislation for DC that they would never even consider in their home districts. Hundreds of you were able to participate in DC Vote's emergency call-in day yesterday. It was a very short window of time to call before the vote and we appreciate your efforts. Though we didn't defeat the gun amendment this time around, we did celebrate a major victory!

If anything, yesterday's win strengthens our resolve. As passage of the gun amendment showed, Congress will continue to interfere with the District until DC enjoys full democracy. DC Vote, our coalition partners, volunteers and supporters have much to celebrate following yesterday's historic victory. But, we have a long road ahead of us in our fight for full democracy for DC.

Could you help us secure next week's vote by donating $40 today?
