Dear Supporters:

Thank you for helping us move the DC Voting Rights Act (H.R.157/S.160) forward! Yesterday, more than 4,000 of you participated in our national call-in day and called your senators to urge a "yes" vote on this critical bill.

Today, in a vote of 62-34, the United States Senate voted for cloture on the DC House Voting Rights Act (H.R.157/S.160). After a centuries-long struggle, DC residents have overcome a significant hurdle in their fight for voting representation in Congress.

DC Vote is optimistic that Congress will move quickly to pass the legislation. Tomorrow, both chambers of Congress will likely consider the bill. The Senate is expected to bring the DC Voting Rights Act to the floor for debate and a vote and the House has scheduled a markup. Click here for information on the House markup.

The fight isn't over yet, though. We are working to defeat any amendments that may be offered in an attempt to sideline the Senate bill. We will also continue to work with House members to ensure that the bill continues to move quickly.

Please continue to help us reach out to members of Congress. Click here to send an e-mail or letter through our Web site. It's quick, easy and effective. Send your message to Congress, today! Are you a DC resident? Unfortunately, the system doesn't allow you to send an automated message. But you can still do your part! Reach out to President Obama through our virtual postcard.

Thanks for all you do to support the DC voting rights movement. Together, we can move this bill forward and celebrate victory in 2009.

Sincerely,

Ilir Zherka
Executive Director
