As much as we look forward to the coming holidays and the inauguration of President Barack Obama, we can't let conservative grinches conspire to steal our future. Progressive Majority needs your support to keep conservatives from taking control of more state legislatures, which will eventually lead to reclaiming control at the national level!
With so much work to do to repair and rebuild our nation, we can't let President Obama be saddled with a Republican Congress. Yet, that's what happened to President Clinton - overnight - in 1994. Republicans took over a stunning 52 seats in the U.S. House and eight in the Senate, and they won 11 governorships. They even took control of 15 state legislative branches, including those in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin - all traditional Democratic strongholds.
That so-called "Republican Revolution" led to legislative stalemates, veto overrides and even to two government shutdowns. It prevented President Clinton from enacting much of the critical legislation needed to move our country forward. It paved the way for eight years of George W. Bush.
Were their hearts two sizes too small? Did someone put coal in their stockings?
