Dear Friend:

Ten Years Together. Our motto this year captures the essence of DC Vote: we are an organization of volunteers, activists, donors, staff, coalition partners and allies.

This week, we celebrated our spectacular achievements at the 2008 Champions of Democracy Awards Dinner.  Check out a description of some of our greatest successes during the past ten years by clicking here (PDF 523 kb).

Roll Call described our progress well when they reported recently that, ?Now the DC voting rights movement is larger and more powerful than ever, with DC Vote at the center of grass-roots efforts. Thousands show up for rallies and millions have been donated to the cause.?

These achievements are our achievements. You provide the energy, the connections, the ideas and the voice for our movement. Thank you.

We are now focused on getting a bill passed in 2009 and our next steps after that milestone.

While the results of the upcoming election will influence our specific strategy, we are already taking action.  On November 11, we are holding a Veterans Day Rally from 12:00 noon to 1:30 PM in Upper Senate Park on Capitol Hill.

We want to send a message to the new President and Congress that we demand quick action to end taxation without representation.

We are also preparing for the work ahead.  If we are successful in getting a bill passed in the next Congress, we will have to defend it in court.  Additionally, we will begin the long push for representation in the Senate.  Lastly, we are looking forward to working with our allies in the Congress to explore ways to achieve full local democracy.

For ten years we have fought the good fight.  We are optimistic about our chances in the next Congress.  At the same time, we are preparing to protect our victories, while continuing the struggle for full representation and democracy.

Thanks again.  See you on Veterans Day

Sincerely,

Ilir Zherka
Executive Director
