A True Grassroots Candidate

Dear Friends,
Support a true grassroots candidate - Larry Kissell of North Carolina!

Two years ago, a public school teacher and former mill worker named Larry Kissell came within 330 votes of winning his improbable race for Congress. In 2006 Larry Kissell's campaign had few resources but was fueled by an inspiring message of change and hope for a New Direction.

This year, Larry is running again and has picked up right where he left off. In July he won the DCCC's 2008 Mobilize for Change: A National Day of Action award. On that single day, Larry recruited a record 1,700 grassroots volunteers to help take his message of change to every voter in his district.

With just 56 days until Election Day, please help this teacher and former mill worker finish the improbable journey to Congress that he began in 2006.

Please support a true agent of change with a generous contribution to Larry Kissell for Congress.

As Speaker of the House, I can tell you that we need more Larry Kissells in Congress. Larry is a real fighter for middle class families because he knows their challenges all too well. He spent nearly 30 years working at a textile mill in North Carolina. However, like so many other mill workers in his community, Larry sensed that his job was about to be shipped overseas. He was right when the plant closed and his former employer laid off nearly 800 workers in the preceding years.

Larry then decided to make a difference by teaching public school. He has taught government and Social Studies to thousands of students in his community. Larry is now making his second run for Congress to continue his fight to end the status quo that has failed his community and our entire country.

Please support a true agent of change with a generous contribution to Larry Kissell for Congress.

North Carolina's 8th district is one of our best opportunities to expand our Democratic Majority. While Larry Kissell represents new priorities for working families, his Republican opponent, Congressman Robin Hayes is the face of the failed Republican status quo.

Robin Hayes has taken more than $176,000 in Big Oil contributions and owns up to $23 million in Big Oil stock. And after promising to vote against CAFTA, Robin Hayes' arm was twisted by President Bush and he cast the deciding vote to send North Carolina's jobs overseas. On everything from his votes to block health care for 10 million children to continuing the President's disastrous course in Iraq, Robin Hayes has consistently put President Bush's priorities before those of middle class families in his district. He even argued with CNN reporters who tried to correct him when he said "Saddam Hussein and people like him" were responsible for the 9/11 attacks.

Unlike Robin Hayes, Larry Kissell doesn't have a big rolodex of wealthy friends with deep pockets. He doesn't get money from Big Oil and doesn't have millions of dollars in stock. But he has you.

Best regards,

Nancy

Speaker Nancy Pelosi
