District of Columbia Voting Information Voting Early by Mail To vote absentee by mail you must apply for a ballot with the Board of Elections' Voter Services office. You may apply for an absentee ballot anytime during the calendar year.
The last day you may apply for a general election absentee ballot is October 28, 2008. We recommend sending your application as early as possible.
Who can vote absentee
Registered voters who cannot make it to the polls on election day because of illness, physical disability or travel may vote by absentee ballot.
Anyone may vote early in person.
