Repower America! This country has all it needs to make the switch to 100% renewable and clean electricity within ten years -- except the policies to make it happen. I'm writing as the CEO of the We Campaign to ask you to take five minutes and call your member of Congress today. Even better, stop by their local office not far from your home and deliver the message in person before they get back to Washington after Labor Day.
It will be a challenge for the Repower America vision to break through in Washington, DC where big energy lobbyists have so much influence on the political discussion. But we're finding ways to make our message heard.
Last week, thousands of We Campaign members wrote letters to the editor in support of repowering America with 100% clean electricity in ten years. It was an amazing response and these letters are now showing up in papers and on websites across the country.
For the next three weeks, when most state and federal legislators are back in their districts, we'll keep finding ways to reach them directly with our message. One great way is the old fashioned way -- pick up the phone and call! Please add your voice by calling (202) 225-3121 and ask to be connected to the main district office of your senators or your representative. You can also find the number yourself at www.senate.gov or www.house.gov.
When you get connected, tell the staff member that you want your elected official to commit to making our electricity 100% clean within ten years. Ask them if the Senator or Representative will commit to this.
When you're done, let us know how the call went.
Want to do more? We're encouraging people to stop by their elected official's district offices and meet with them. If you want to really get their attention, gather some neighbors and schedule an appointment. You'd be surprised how willing they are to meet with a dozen or so people.
