Conrad: New Visitor Center Offers Intimate Look at Capitol's History

Dear Friend:

After eight years of construction, it was recently announced that the new Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) will open to the public December 2, 2008, coinciding with the 145th anniversary of the completion of the Capitol dome.

The CVC will give visitors an intimate look of the Capitol's history, as well as the inner workings of Congress. The 558,000 square-foot facility is an extension of the Capitol (the largest expansion in its history), and includes an exhibition gallery, cafe, gift shop, and two large orientation theaters. Photos and additional information about the CVC are available at www.aoc.gov/cvc/.

Every year I am honored to share this great national treasure with visiting North Dakotans.  As your Senator, I am able to provide constituent services that can be valuable to experiencing Washington D.C.  Among those services are tours of the Capitol building and other Washington sites.  More information about these services can be found on my Web site, www.conrad.senate.gov.

I encourage you to visit Washington, D.C., and join me in admiring our nation's Capitol. As you plan your trip to Washington, D.C., call my office at 202-224-2043 and allow my staff to be of assistance as you explore the new Capitol Visitors Center.

Sincerely,

KENT CONRAD
United States Senator
