About this Conference & Workshop

In recent years, shootings, hostage scenarios and acts of violence continue to plague elementary, secondary, high school and college campuses across the country. In 2007, school shootings took place at Henry Foss High School, Virginia Tech, Delaware State and at the SuccessTech Academy which resulted in over 35 deaths and 25 injured students.

The school safety profession landscape was dramatically changed after the Columbine shootings which caused many schools to create or revisit their security and emergency plans. While schools continue to develop and hone their plans, new threats from active shooters, natural disasters and terrorist attacks continue to set a new threshold for best practices in school safety. School administrators and safety professionals need to successfully prepare your school and community against attacks, whether natural or non-natural.

At the National Conference for School Security and Safety, you will learn about the latest techniques and technologies for school safety planning, preparation, response, wellness, and recovery. You will be trained in the basic and advanced issues of school and community issues in security and safety. Insight will be given into recent case studies of school shootings and subsequent law enforcement training exercises. Attendees will leave the conference with tools to use at their school or affiliated school district, including administrative tools, educational and training content for staff, parents, and students, and assist the school in complying with federal standards. You will have the opportunity to take the information and implement it for your community.

Attendees will have the option to participate in an extra training clinic at the conclusion of the conference. On the third day attendees can participate in "Developing Optimum School Safety & Crisis Management Plans" which will assist attendees with their individual school or school district's crisis management plan. This full day training workshop will cover the "mission" of a crisis management plan, the role of the central office, and the extensive nuances of these plans. Each attendee is encouraged to bring their individual crisis management plan to share with the instructor and attendees. A Homeland Defense Journal Certificate of Completion will be provided to all attendees upon conclusion of the workshop.
