Star-Gazette.COM - Letters: " Don't sit out of the election process November 21, 2007 " Did you know that the 2008 election will mark the first time since the 1928 election in which there is neither an incumbent president nor an incumbent vice president running for his party's nomination in the presidential election? What else do you know about the coming election? As a citizen, you not only have rights but also responsibilities. Citizenships means participating in the political process by being an informed and active member of society. Unfortunately, not everyone does participate in the political process. In the 2004 presidential elections, a total of 215,694,000 people were allowed to vote. However, of the 65.9 percent people registered, only 58.3 percent actually voted (U.S. Census Bureau, 2007). But how can you change your dissatisfaction about unemployment, expensive education fees or a lack of health insurance coverage?By registering to vote, you take the first step to modify the future the way you want it. Get informed about the candidates and register to vote. You can either register at your local election office or by mail. It is your choice. Take a stand and decide who represents you and your government. NANCY BECHMANN Mansfield
