Schwarzenegger formula: Aim for center - USATODAY.com

Schwarzenegger formula: Aim for center - USATODAY.com: "Schwarzenegger formula: Aim for center"By Mike Allen, Politico.com PASADENA, Calif. — Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose decisive re-election in November made him one of the few Republican success stories last year, says he hopes the presidential candidates converging on California for Thursday's debate will break with the traditional formula for winning the party nomination and signal that they would govern from the center. Republicans have typically swerved to the right as they have courted voters in the winter nominating contests. But that calculus is being rethought this year now that California — home to one in eight Americans — is part of the massive Feb. 5 primary that could determine the nominee in each party. The California governor sat down with The Politico to give his thoughts about the party and the GOP field ahead of the debate, which is being hosted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in conjunction with MSNBC and The Politico. "What's important is to be in the center and to see that someone deals from the center and accomplish everything by reaching across the aisle — to work with Republicans and Democrats in order to bring people together," he said. "I want to see that because that is very important, especially now the way Washington is going. Nothing is getting done."
