Debating Newt Gingrich

Dear Phillip,

Global climate change is one of the greatest threats of our time. Here's the bottom line: within the next decade, if we don't deal with global warming, our children and grandchildren may deal with global catastrophe. Still, Washington resists -- in the Congress they've even trotted out the author of Jurassic Park as an expert witness to argue that climate change is fiction. This is Stone Age science.

We need a real debate. It is time to stop debating fiction writers, oil executives and flat-earth politicians, and actually talk about how to address global climate change.

That's why Newt Gingrich and I are meeting up this coming Tuesday, April 10 to debate and discuss climate change, the environment -- and what we need to do to solve these challenges. Please join us. The debate is hosted by the New York University's John Brademas Center and will take place at the Russell Senate Office Building Room 325, at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Over the last three years, I talked to people from across the country and all different walks of life who wanted to see action on the environment and global climate change. They inspired Teresa and me to write This Moment on Earth, a book that tells the story of those who tackled environmental challenges in their own backyards. Americans understand the threat of global climate change -- they want action. The question is, are their leaders listening?

So please join me Tuesday, April 10 as I meet with Newt Gingrich so we can debate the case for action. We will explore the ways that Congress can -- and should -- take action now, and what we can do to make a difference. I look forward to seeing you there and hope you can be part of our discussion.
