As we continue our work in the 110th Congress, I am writing to ask you for your thoughts, ideas and opinions as well as update you on some things happening in Washington. This e-mail is being sent to people all over Iowa who have contacted my office in the past.
As you may know, in my role as the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, I am in the process of writing the 2007 farm bill. I look forward to crafting legislation that moves rural America forward through bold initiatives that promote ethanol and biofuels, spur rural development and foster conservation practices.
I am also the new Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. In that capacity, I will continue to fight for adequate resources for vital health, human services, education and job training initiatives. I am pleased to report that the recently passed legislation funding most government agencies for the remainder of the Fiscal Year 2007 contained a $2.3 billion increase in funding for these programs. This increase was the culmination of more than a year's effort to fight devastating cuts proposed in President Bush's FY 2007 budget.
Every new Congress brings with it the opportunity to make great progress on issues of concern to Iowans, and the 110th Congress is no exception. For that reason, I want to hear from
you. What do
you see as the greatest challenge facing our country? What issues do
you want to see Congress tackle? How can I help serve
you better?
You can tell me your thoughts by visiting my
