Al Gore Is Democrats Best President Candidate For 2008

Al Gore Is Democrats Best President Candidate For 2008: Written by: Dr. Albert Samuels "The 2008 presidential election is heating up. Barack Obama made his candidacy official Saturday, making his announcement in Springfield, Illinois (not coincidentally, the place where Abraham Lincoln served in the state legislature). Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton campaigned heavily in New Hampshire over the weekend, explaining (among other things) her decision to give President Bush the authorization to go to war in Iraq. While Senators Obama and Clinton dominated the headlines over the weekend, a small, informal gathering in Boston which potentially could have great significance scarcely attracted any attention at all. A group of Gore supporters met to discuss the possibility of drafting former Vice President Al Gore to seek the Democratic nomination for president. Organizers insisted the gathering was informal; the former vice president is not involved in their efforts. Yet, at the same time, they wanted people to realize that they were serious. While Gore has not stated an intention to run, it is interesting to note that he has also not categorically ruled out a run for the White House in 2008. The Boston Globe reported a month ago that Gore has sent out “feelers” to some key Democratic activists and operatives in an effort to see if they were already committed to another candidate in ‘08 and if they would support him should he decide to run. If Gore did decide to take the plunge, his presence in the race transforms what is an already interesting race for the Democratic presidential nomination overnight. "
