2008 was a great year for progressives and for Progressive Majority. We elected more than 100 progressive champions to state and local office. We flipped control of two more state governments and four local governments. We increased our numbers in every state where we work. Our newly elected leaders will build the progressive base and provide President Obama with the support he needs to get our nation back on track.
But, the truth of the matter is, there's no time to bask in our victories. We need your support to keep training new candidates and winning elections.
Do you think conservatives are pouting over their losses and wondering what went wrong? Not a chance. They'll retreat, regroup and come back swinging. We can't afford to let our guard down for one minute. That's why we're already focused on recruiting, training and electing new progressive leaders.
The Republican Party may seem like a disorganized, deflated mess right now, but they'll be back. They know, as Progressive Majority knows, that the way to the top starts at the bottom. To build a base, you need strong state and local support.
We know how to build the progressive movement, and we know how to recruit, train and elect great progressive candidates to state and local office. In just five short years, Progressive Majority has helped flip control of six state legislatures, 34 local governments and four statewide positions, and we've helped put 340 progressives in office.
Now, more than ever, we need your help to build on this momentum and to fight back against the inevitable Republican resurgence. With your help, we can keep building the Progressive Majority Farm Team and put even more progressives in office in 2009, 2010, 2011 and beyond.
